Welcome to the digital procedure for determining course-related artistic-creative aptitude

This portal enables you to digitally submit  your application for the aptitude test (assessment procedure of the course-related artistic-creative aptitude) in all courses of study of the Department of Design.

Applying for an admission-free Bachelor's degree study place in three steps:

STEP 1 – Registration

Please register on this portal in order to take part in the artistic-design aptitude assessment procedure. For the Bachelor's degree programmes in Photography, Communication Design, Object and Spatial Design and Serious Games & Digital Knowledge, you can choose from three time periods. 

Note: Please register for the aptitude assessment procedure by 30.04.2024 if you would like to apply for the winter semester 2024/2025! 

STEP 2 – The artistic-design aptitude test

First stage of the procedure - receive invitation and upload documents
You will receive an invitation by e-mail at the beginning of the processing period or after registration at the earliest with detailed information on the further course of the artistic-design aptitude test as well as the assignment

Please upload your work samples and, if applicable, term papers in full within the processing period. Incomplete applications will not be graded.  

In the 1st stage of the procedure, a decision is made on admission to the second stage of the procedure. This means that if the result is clear, you may or may not be granted suitability, even if you do not participate in the second stage of the procedure.

Second stage of the procedure - interview, colloquium, task
If the result in the 1st stage of the procedure is inconclusive, you will be invited to the 2nd stage of the procedure. You will receive the invitation by e-mail at least one week in advance. Depending on the course of study, different requirements are set within the framework of the 2nd stage of the procedure. An overview of the requirements of the respective degree programmes can be found here.

 

Result
You will receive the result of the aptitude test by e-mail after it has been reviewed by the Commission. 

IMPORTANT! BA Serious Games and Digital Knowledge 
Expected start of studies in the winter semester 2024/25.
The new course has not yet been finally accredited. This means that studies may not begin until the winter semester of 2025/26. The eligibility from 2024 is still valid.

STEP 3 – Applying for a place at university

If you have passed the artistic-design aptitude test, then you still have to apply centrally for the Study place apply. You can do this on the respective portals within the following periods:
Non-EU application       15.04. – 15.06. uni assist
EU application               15.05. – 15.07. Study portal of the University of Applied Sciences

In order to apply for a study place in the correct form and on time, it is essential that you submit your application via the FH Dortmund study place portal using this LINK from December 1st. until January 15th for a summer semester and from May 15th. until July 31st to be submitted for a winter semester. This is required regardless of registration for the aptitude assessment procedure. Please register there again.
